To get more Google reviews for your trade business, ask customers consistently, give them a direct review link and make the request easy to act on. Ask for honest feedback, without incentives or pressure. Build the request into your job completion process so it does not depend on remembering later.

You have done the work, cleared up and handed everything over. That is a sensible moment to explain that customer feedback helps other people decide who to trust.

When should a tradesperson ask for a review?

Choose a point when the customer has had a genuine chance to judge the service. For a fitted wardrobe installation, that could be after the handover. For a longer building project, wait until there is a meaningful experience to review.

Keep dealing with snags and questions properly. A review request should not become a way to rush the customer or sidestep unfinished work.

Use the same sensible process across customers. Do not send public review requests only to people who have first given you a high score in a private survey.

    What should the message say?

Keep it short, personal and easy to understand. Ask for an honest account of the experience rather than a five-star rating.

Example message: “Hi Sam, thanks for choosing us for your driveway. If you have a moment, would you leave an honest Google review about your experience? It helps other local customers understand our work. I’ll send the direct review link with this message. Thanks, Ben.”

Replace the name, job and sender with the real details, then include your actual review link. The message should sound like the business the customer has just dealt with.

Shorter version: “Thanks again for choosing us. Would you mind sharing your experience in a Google review? I’ll include the link here so it is easy to find. We appreciate the feedback.”

How do you make leaving a review easier?

Get the review link or QR code from your Google Business Profile. Google’s official review guidance explains these options. A direct route is easier than asking the customer to search for you and work it out.

    • Put the link in the message itself.
    • Check it opens the correct business profile.
    • Keep the request separate enough to notice.
    • Use a QR code on handover material if that suits your customers.

Do not ask to use the customer’s phone or write the review for them. Their words are what make the feedback useful.

Should you offer a discount or prize?

No. Google prohibits incentives in exchange for reviews, including discounts and free services. Do not tie a reward to leaving, changing or removing a review.

Avoid buying reviews or asking people who have never used your service to pose as customers. It creates a misleading picture and can put your profile at risk.

There is no need to dictate keywords either. A genuine description of the job and experience is more useful than a paragraph you have written for the customer.

    What if the customer forgets?

One polite reminder can be reasonable. Give them time and avoid repeated chasing. They do not owe you a review.

Example reminder: “Hi Sam, just a quick reminder about the Google review link I sent over. If you have time to share your experience, we would appreciate it. Thanks again.”

If you use a job management system, add a review request task to the handover workflow. Keep a record of whether a request was sent so two team members do not chase the same customer.

Our guide to construction email flows explains how follow-up can become a reliable process. Check that any automation stops when appropriate and uses the correct customer details.

How should you respond to reviews?

Keep replies human and relevant. Thank the customer for their feedback without turning the response into an advert.

For a negative review, check the job record first. Acknowledge the concern, explain any useful facts briefly and offer an appropriate way to discuss it. Keep private customer details out of the public reply.

Report a review if you believe it breaches Google’s policies. Disagreeing with a customer’s opinion alone does not mean it will be removed.

How do reviews fit into getting more jobs?

Reviews give potential customers evidence alongside your project photos, website and quote. They cannot compensate for unclear services or a phone nobody answers.

Connect your review process with local SEO and a clear trade website. A roofer should also show relevant completed work, as our marketing for roofing companies page explains.

Measure whether the request process is being used consistently, then look at suitable enquiries and booked work. Do not invent a review target because another company has a bigger total.

Common questions about trade business reviews

How many Google reviews do I need? There is no magic number that guarantees jobs or a ranking position. Aim for genuine, ongoing customer feedback.

Can I ask customers to mention the service? You can invite them to describe the work and experience in their own words. Do not supply a script or pressure them into specific claims.

Can I ask for reviews by WhatsApp? It can suit an existing customer conversation, provided the request is appropriate and easy to decline.

What should I fix first? Make the review link easy to find and assign the request to a clear stage of every completed job. If your customer journey needs a better system, speak to Adrageous.
